It's not a direct confirmation, but considering the original voice actor has returned with numerous cameos in Ghost Recon, that could be in service to Michael Ironside reprising his role of Sam Fisher in a remake as well. Jumping back to the franchise's roots with a remake would be the better decision, especially given the encouraging sign from the Prince of Persia remake. Splinter Cell: Blacklist from 2013 certainly got close, but it wasn't enough of a return to the traditional gameplay from the series' past. Fans of the franchise's golden days like Chaos Theory have been waiting patiently for another true-to-spirit Splinter Cell game for years. All of the stealth-focused gameplay, without some of the action game influences that came in later games, made Splinter Cell what it used to be. The game released all the way back in 2002, and was formative for the rest of the series up until Conviction. It is unknown if another project that will fall in line with these rumors will manifest.Not to mention the first Splinter Cell game is ripe for a remake. There were recent rumors earlier this month that pointed to an unnamed Splinter Cell project that would be going towards an open-world design similar to other Ubisoft titles like Assassin's Creed, though it has been confirmed that that will not be the case for this game. In the eight years since then, series protagonist Sam Fisher has shown up in other titles such as a cameo appearance in Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Rainbow Six Siege. This will be the first Splinter Cell title since 2013's Splinter Cell Blacklist, also developed by Ubisoft Toronto. The original Splinter Cell title debuted in 2002 and in the 19 years since then has had a total of seven games in the series. The game is still in early development and has no announced date or window that players should expect to be able to dawn the night vision goggles of Sam Fisher. Ubisoft has officially announced that they are working on a Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell remake.
